Hungary still to oppose sanctions against Russian nuclear sector
BUDAPEST, Jun 26 (PRIME) -- Hungary will never agree to sanctions against the Russian nuclear power sector because it would stop development of the Hungarian nuclear power industry, Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto told reporters on Monday.
“Some countries have again called for sanctions on the nuclear sphere today. It looks like this story will never end, but everyone within the E.U. and outside it should know that Hungary would never agree and will never agree to the sanctions that would make its own nuclear industry impossible,” he said.
Construction of the new nuclear reactors of the Paks plant that is going on together with Russia’s Rosatom is a guarantee of the energy security of Hungary, and Budapest would block any initiatives to restrict cooperation with Russia in the nuclear sector, Szijjarto said.
